Increase Of US Consumer Power Prices As Effect Of Japan Nuclear Crisis
The recent explosion on the Japanese nuclear power plant that was caused by the earthquake raised the constant efforts to control the reactor and its fallout that is considered to be dangerous. This fact actually sparked new concerns referring the US nuclear power. According to the ratings agencies, the renewed concerns about the existing and the new nuclear power stations are expected to boost the prospects of natural gas markets within the short term. Besides, liquefied natural gas can be imported to Japan in order to provide power while there are no operating nuclear plants.
Alternative Energy vs. New Nuclear Plants
In fact, in some time the concerns over the Japanese crises of nuclear industry may increase the appeal of renewable fuels for getting alternative energy, like biomass, wind and solar. However, the efforts of its expansion remain still rather limited contributors to the entire US electricity market. Actually, this can be explained by the expensiveness of the units for renewable supply and its unreliability. Meanwhile, the Obama administration is going to build more nuclear power units and even take installment loans for their construction.
Power Prices For US Consumers May Increase
Well, Obama administration explains that the new nuclear plants will make the US independent as for the energy. Besides, Senior Director of Fitch Ratings public finance group Chris Jumper stated that the new projects will be safer than the existing units as they will be adjusted to the new requirements. He also said that the costs of the new equipment could be added into the rate base that defines the power prices for consumers. Thus, people will have to pay more for the electricity and some of them can even face the necessity to borrow money in order to cover the bills.
